Description
The Casa e Quinta de São Gens comprises an estate of around 6.5 hectares, centred on an 18th-century mansion designed by Nicolau Nasoni, featuring a central tower, an adjoining Baroque garden, a woodland and a complex of modern and contemporary buildings constructed by the State as part of the establishment of the former Porto (or Douro Litoral) Agricultural Station and, subsequently, the now-defunct Northern Regional Directorate of Agriculture.
Owned by the State, the Casa e Quinta de São Gens is currently managed by CCDR-NORTE, which has established its new Culture Unit in the mansion; the estate also hosts services provided by the Agriculture Unit and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests.
